Call us a little bit silly, but who knew that "pigs with wings" would become such a craze in our household. Just a reminder, this whole thing started when we were planning our wedding. My mother was making a wedding quilt for us and a tradition of hers is to put a square for each of us, of something we like. I have a small collection of different butterflies (not real ones) and Chris got started collecting pigs when he was little by his Great Grandma
Crutchfield. So, my mom put one square with a butterfly and one with a pig, right next to
each other and we came up with the name for the quilt, "When Pigs Fly". We got a couple of pigs with wings on our wedding day, and have randomly
received/collected them since. We have QUITE the collection now, and decided to take pictures of them. This doesn't even count the many Christmas Ornaments that we have packed away safely downstairs.
Although we didn't anticipate this when we started our collection, the pig with wings has become much more than a
fictitious character. It symbolizes the
unique characteristics of our marriage and our combined lives together, and ultimately, our children too. Somehow, our family, even during
difficult times, is beating the odds, looking up to the sky and spreading our wings just as far and as high as they will take us...

I read this post last night about the flying pigs, then looked at my kids' Scholastic book order form that came home from school. Guess what book was on sale? It's a book called "Ping Pong Pig" and the writeup says it's a book about a pig learning to fly. I thought of you and Chris, and wanted to tell you in case you might want to buy the book for your family. The author is Caroline Jayne Church.
